Ok, my tanks been setup just a bit over a week. 20lbs of LS in the tank with less then 3 lbs of LR (still adding) with 1 lb of base rock in there with a few hermits and nassarius snails to produce waste to feed the bacteria. Params are at normal and it seem the bio-spira I added to the tank has aided the bio filter.
It seems that the tank is getting a little algea bloom on the sand, glass and base rock. So far the base rock has browned and so is the same for parts of the sand. I'm guessing its from the 10 hrs of light from the 70W HQI. The glass had some brown algea on it and I scraped it off and it had some green algea growing on it when I checked it out 6 or so hours later.
But I digress, I was looking at putting a 2.5-5 gallon REFUG on there to help with NitrItes and was just wondering how I should time the pumps? I figure the one pumping into the REFUG is going to be aided by gravity so it will be putting more water in then the other pump is taking out (though the pumps will be the same.) ATM I was looking at putting some cheato in there with some caulerpa but I am not sure wheater to use REFUG mud or aragonite. The tank will have a PC light above it. Also, where should I have the out take from the REFUG going to? The main tank? Or to the sump of the tank?
