Creating Refugium inside Corner Overflow

They Got My Number
I am purchasing 90-100gal bowfront (dimensions are funny) and the previous owner had it drilled with a durso but no overflow. I purchased a rather large 8"x8"x26" (7gal) corner overflow from Zeroedge.

I was wondering if anyone has put a DSB and chaeto inside their overflow box if they have a grate on their durso? 100% of the water would be exposed to the chaeto and it wouldn't require any additional lighting since the tank lights would be overhead and I would be able to fit a ton of sand/chaeto since the overflow box holds as much water as many people's pico reefs! I also think it would be cool to house some kind of small burrowing fish in there since the sand bed could be 10" or so deep.

Any Ideas?

I've used the overflows on a Oceanic 180 as a refugium with just live rock and it was fine , until I had a fish jump in there. About the fourth time I had to empty an overflow to catch a fish the rock stayed in the sump ;).

I'd skip the sand, and build an eggcrate barrier to keep the chaeto out of the drain line area.

jmo,
