anyone have any ideas how i could modify my old seaclone into either a calicum, alkalinity, or phosphate reactor? i would use the search option but i keep getting denied. any ideas and instructions for any type of mod would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The pump is the only thing that works on a seaclone. Trash the rest and start saving for a real skimmer.

Turn the acrylic body into a phosphate reactor, calcium reactor, kalk stirrer, carbon reactor, or fluidized sand filter! :D thats what I would do anyway.

But building your own stuff can be frustrating. I would just sell it to be safe. You dont want a useless tube lying around?

The easiest one would seem to be a phosphate/carbon reactor. But they can be had new for as cheap as $30. So it may or may not be worth the work to you. Another thought would be to turn the acrylic tube into a fish trap. The prices on those things are silly if you ask me. Shouldn't take much to glue on the trap door to the opening.

i wonder how hard would it be to turn into a phosphate reactor? woudnt u just have to put the media inside of it and run it with the airline totally shut so that there is no microbubbles forming inside the skimmer?

It's not hard, but you'd have to fabricate a few pieces I think like the bottom diffuer plate, and then you need to buy some sponges to keep the media in the chamber.

pretty much the same way the phosban reactor does. Another difusser plate at the top with the sponge underneath it.
The plates basically "collar" the dowdraft tube. The sponges are a very tight fit, and need to be basically pushed into place. Very porous material, much like the sponge blocks that come with whisper outside filters.
