Hey richard do you have a updated list of critters that come in on your live rock.... i was thinking like the hitchhikers like mantis shrimp and such

BTW do you know how many boxes 40 lbs of LR would fill (trying to figgure my order for december and gotta let my fellow reefer what his cost will be since we will be buying together :)

Whats on the rock?

Whats on the rock?

Sure do on the webpage at www.tbsaltwater.com under "whats on the rock"

We ship 25-30 pounds per box, with about 15# water weight additional......freight cost depends on your location airport...
Thanks
Richard TBS

yea i looked at that but it doesn't show the mantis shrimp or peppermint shrimp and a few others, I don't need this feature but I thought it might be helpful to budding aquarists... in other words it is missing a few small bits, other than that it is great... also an idea that I had was you could post pics of the items so that people could figure out exactly the organisim that they were looking at (I don't know if your server is big enough to handle all those pictures, just an idea)

I have purchased rock here in Tampa locally from Tampa Bay Saltwater. The rock DOES come with mantis shrimp inside. QUite a few of them. For my reef tank this was not good, so I simply fished the critters out. Make sure you do the same. Mantis shrimp can wreck parts of your tank!!!

Actually, all you have to do to prevent unwanted hitchhikers, ie, Mantis Shrimp, from entering your tank is to simply sett all of the liverock out on some newspaper for a short while, and the Mantis shrimp will fall out of the liverock. I belive that this is also the way Richard at TBS reccomends to do it as well. The short time being out of the water will not hurt the liverock.

I am so glad I bought TBS live rock - the life on it is amazing! I did get a mantis (with only 30 lbs!). I knew what rock he was in and tried different traps and even fishing for him with no success - smart little bugger! I finally dipped the rock in a bucket of water with slightly different salinity level than my tank (emphysis on slightly!) and the mantis bailed right out! Of course the rock he was in had tons of life (clams, sea squirts, christmas tree work, etc) and the short dip did not hurt them at all. Also I didn't remove soon enough a hairy crab that was cute & a good cleanup guy when he was smaller. He grew very fast and decided he liked snails, small clams, who knows what all! He was much more difficult to catch as he got larger.

ps - In the process of trying to catch the mantis I got attached to him - George now has a 3 gallon tank at my office!
