I've had a Crocea clam now for about 2 weeks in the tank. I've placed it on a rock and put sand around the rock to hold the clam with the mantlle facing up. Every couple of days I have to redo it as the clam ends up on its side or off the rock. Should I leave it along or continue to try and have it attach to the rock.

I am havin the same problem w my baby crocea too. I have him on a small rock to bowl feed him twice a week and he attached himself. Now he has detached himself and keeps falling off.

I wonder if that means he is unhappy in that location.

when the clam is placed in a spot that meets its lighting and flow needs it will attach. give the clam about a week in a spot and if it doesnt attach then move it. but make sure you give it plenty of time in between moves.

My crocea is perfectly happy on the bottom in the sand bed... I placed him there and he has not tried to move... Opens quite beautifully...

Croceas are boring clams (they wedge themselves into the rocks). They are constantly moving around and easily dislodge themselves. I usually try to place them on a rock with some kind of crevice...that way as they open and close they won't fall and dislodge themselves.

Also, there's nothing wrong with putting them on the sand as long as no one bothers it.

I would leave it alone if it doesn't attach. If you keep on moving it, you may stress it out and it may die. Leave it alone for a while and then try again. Good luck.

When you do try to put it back, try a different rock. It took several weeks before I found a place that my crocea liked. They won't attach if they don't like the location. When I found a spot it liked it attached almost immediately (like within 20 minutes). Now it is growing like crazy, so it must be happy.
