crocea clam

Hi everyone.

This is my first clam. He seems to be doing great, but I have a question about him. I've seen him do this twice now. Once was about two weeks ago and it happened again yesterday.
He was closed down for just about the entire day. I started to worry and started checking all the water parameters. About 1/2 hour before the lights went out he started to open up.... I kept watching because I suspected he would do the same thing he did the few weeks before when I seen him closed and he did. He sorta closed really quick and a bunch of string white stuff came flying out. What is this? Is this him spawning or something else.

For the most part he is alway open and extended, I have only seen him close down like this twice now. Both times, when he opened he did this.

Is this something to be concerned about or do I have a happy clam?

Thanks.

My opinion is

1. if it was cloudy white discharge it could be a spawning event.

2. And I believe this to be the more likely cause, it sounds like it could be expelling zooxanthellae (sp)

Is it under halides?

spawning in our tanks is brought on by stress / survival instinct.

run carbon, clean your skimmer and be prepared to do a water change.

please list all your water parameters and fish / invert list as well as everything you are dosing and how.
