crocea gaping, can't close

I got a crocea clam about 2 months ago which I thought was doing well up until today. It appears to be open quite a bit wider than it has in the past, and it's hole (the large one) looks much bigger today. I picked up his rock to inspect it a little and normally it would retract his mantle and close his shell up a bit, but now it only retracts it's mantle and it's shell doesn't close at all.

Is this normal behavior for a crocea or could there be something wrong with him? I'll see if I can snap a pic tomorrow.

Someone posted recently about some kind of build up of something (crustacean maybe?) that was around the hinged part of his clam that was preventing it from closing. He cleaned it off and it was ok.

tell us about your tank. lighting(what kind, watts,K rating of bulbs)Ca,Alk,and all other water parameters(please list them all)

That was me () : )
Not sure what guys did it, just various calciferous critters as far as I could tell.

If you can touch the foot area then that should certainly make it go all the way in if it can...mine can be taken out of water and still not close up all the way..they are just too tame I guess...but poke around on the foot and BAM they shut tight.

mbbuna had some good questions, hope your clam isn't on the way out.

Cheers,
