crocea help....

Guys i had crocea for about 6 months everything is been fine..
but few weeks back i noticed ,,my clam was close most of the time
i thought it was sick or dying but for my surprise it was my hippo tang the culplit that i was nibbling at it. every now and then.
So i what i did i moved my clam to a different spot in the tank , for some reason the hippo tank keep finding my crocea and continued nibling on it (so now it's close all the time)
Guys does anyone in here ever had this issue before
What should i do.. I don't want to get rid off my hippo tang, but if it keep harrasing my clam i will..

90 gallon tank mostly SPS
crocea about 4 incles
hippo tang about 5 inches
I need help guys anyone.

I had a similar problem with my clown fish, these past weeks, it has been bothering my Derasa. The fish never actually attack/damage it, but the clam seem pretty annoyed...But after the incident (read the "ouch" thread), my clown fish has stop bothering it lol. I've never heard of tangs attacking clams, I have a yellow tang, and it has never bother any of my clams

Did you had them both together during that six month period? Other than the damage crocea, do you have any other clams in your tank? Does the tang attack them?

Maybe the tang isn't getting enough food...if the harassing continues, I would recommend removing either the tang or clam,

clams are able to recover if the damge isn't too severe...

thank for the responce.. yes that is the only clam in tank
they been togetter for all this time and the harrassing started a week ago..
what i did remove the clam, to my frag tank for a day to see is the hippo tang will forget abou it but as soon i put it in tank again it started all over will said 10 minutes after it nibble again.
someone told that maybe i should feed them some more..
my hippo is pig he is everything and still want some more.
i really don't want to remove any of them from my tank.
Would you suggest to remove my clam from my tank for about a week or so and then re- introduce it back to the tank .
any help apreciatte.

Is your clam on the sand by any chance? If so, try moving it on a rock (which is where they prefer to be). I have a Copperband Butterfly and it started nipping at two Coceas I had on the sand; once I moved them on the rocks it stopped.

I have never heard of a hippo bothering a clam, though.

If moving it to the rocks doesn't work, you'll probably have to choose between the tang and the clam. Constantly moving the clam between tanks or to different areas will cause even more stress and the fish will just keep finding it. If you spent every day walking around a room that was like 10 feet by 5 feet, and someone put a candy bar in there, it probably wouldn't take you very long to find it. Good luck with your clam.

Sometimes a fish will just one day decide that it likes the taste of clams or acropora polyps or whatever it might be. I had a buddy who had a pygmy angel in his reef for over a year, one day it decided it liked clams and took out 2 of them before he pulled it out. Good luck.
