Crocea liking the high flow?

I just put a 4" crocea in my tank and just haven't been able to find the place that he/she likes. When I purchased it, it was attached to an empty snail shell so moving it about is quite easy. Anyway.... I've read that these are the most light demanding of the clams, but when I put mine up towards the top of my tank on the rocks, it would barely open. (Single 150W 14K MH, 2 65W 50/50 PC's) I moved it all around the tank and it never seemed happy. That is until I placed it down in the sand in the direct flow of one of my powerheads. 10 minutes later and it's really opening up. My quesiton is, do these guys like high flow? The only other clam I have is a squamosa and it's happy high up in the rocks. Not my crocea though.

They typically despise flow. You probably shouldn't put it right under the light anyway. Start it out lower and work it back up to the top giving it about 4-6 days at each spot

suposively croceas can tolerate more flow than other clams. My Crocea actually turned about 20 degreese in the direction of my flow. Interesting.

Well, my crocea just doesn't seem to be happy in the main tank. He's down low in the tank, but barely opens and extends his mantle. He came out of my nano with just PC lighting and he was always fully opened. Just he just need some more time to become happy in the main tank or what?

Rather than start a new thread I've just opted to change the topic of this one and see if I can get the answer I need. As stated above, I have a 4 inch crocea that just went into my main display tank. I bought him from a LFS where he came out of a tank with MH's. I put him into my nano with only PC lighting where he fully opened and extended with zero problems. But when he was returned to my main tank after about a week he would barely open or extend. From research and what I've been told, it will take him a while to acclimate to the lighting change. I decided to put him under an overhang with low lighting for a few days. Then I moved him out into the light onto the sand bed at the bottom of my 65 gallon reef. When the PC's come on in the morning he opens much more than he has, but when the MH's come on he closes back up. I'm guessing that this is due to the fact that he's acclimating to the lighting. Like I stated above, how long will it take him to get used to the new lighitng. Should I just leave him at this depth until he starts to open and then slowly start moving him up on the rocks? Thanks.

there's no way to say exactly how long it will take the clam to acclimate to the lighting change. i would leave the clam where it is until it starts to open normally, then slowly move it up to where you want.

when clams are moved from different lighting they need to adjust there zoox population. if you take a clam from high lighting to low lighting it will stay open, trying to increase its zoox in order to feed and stay alive. when you go from low to high light there is already a larger zoox population, the zoox will produce sugars and O2 as long as the light is on, but the clam can handle the increased sugar and O2 so it closes up to shield the zoox from light.

be very careful changing lighting(i mean in an extreme like this,PC to MH)excess O2 can poison the clam. and the clam might expel(bleach)some zoox

I have 3 croceas all under 3 inches and they hate flow....It is such a pain to try and get them to stay where you want....But after about 2-3 months of having them I kind of figured out wherethey wanted to stay...
