Just got my first clam. A blue/green crocea. I have a 75 gal. (48*18*21 depth)tank with 4'' sand bed .for lighting I have 4*54watt tek t5 fixture. My question is will my crocea be ok on the sand bed on a small rock? or should it be moved up? lighting is 2 blue+, 1 aqua , 1 daylight.

i would slowly move it you to at least mid tank

Do you suggest this because it is a crocea or because of the lights? I have crocea on the sand in my 90 Gallon under 770 Watts (500 MH + 220 VHO) and it is doing fine after about 5 weeks. I'm asking because I plan on leaving it there (it has attached to a rock I placed under the sand) because I don't have a good place in the rock for it.

because of the lights

i have mine on the bottom of my tank... but i do have a ton of light... with your tank being 18 " tall and having 4 54 watt bulbs i think that you would be ok...

I have the same light on my 55 (same depth) and my croceas are on the bottom doing well. t5 are wonderful lights.

i would still listen to mbbuna he/she knows everything you can ever learn about clams. there is no one better to get advice from for clams

sorry i was not saying to not move him up.. i am sure that mbbuna knows what he is talking about but you have almost as much t5 light as i do and my clams are happy. i have the middle and high sections of my tank reserved for sps.

T5 give out more light than people give them credit for. The only thing I can keep happy in the upper 1/3 of my tank is SPS and there is to much current up there for my clams. everybody has a little differnt opinion.

I think that for almost any situation you can someone that'll tell that they do it this way or that and it works for them. I listen mbbuna and use that as my spot on general rule, then I adapt slightly to my tanks parameters. I have 1200w MH and 384w PC actinics, I keep squamosas and a couple corcea's on the bottom, and maximas and other corceas mid to high. All types of currents in the tank and they adapt to medium pretty well, difintely not the preferred though. Good luck- you'll become a clam addict. I am
