Crocea or Maxima?

picked up this guy yesterday- they were selling as a crocea, but my first thought was that it was a Maxima.

The coloration and pattern look like other maxima's I've seen.

so what do ya'll think?

maxima- you can tell by the scutes on the shell.

actually crocea can have scutes as well. A pic from the side might help. The color does look like a maxima

croceas dont have scutes like that. The maxima has large scutes which are spaced out like in the photo. Croceas have smaller closer scutes for anchoring when boring into reefs. Definitely maxima.

i can grab a side pic tomorrow when the lights come on- compared to my other two clams, which are crocea's, this does have very defined ridges in the shell (scutes?)

never seen those markings on a crocea though, which is what led me at first to think it was a maxima. Great price on it nontheless- $50 for 3.5"

Maxima, especially from the appearance of the scutes on the left side of the clam.
