Crocea placement, rock or sand?

Just seeking others opinions on this. I just got my crocea a couple days ago. Looking good so far. The LFS(yeah, I know)said it was ok to just place him in the sand. I reread the clam article in Reef Keeping Magazine about clams today and it says place on rock. How do you guys place yours and what do you think is best?

I have a 110 gal tank, 6 ft long, around 18-19 inches of water depth. I have 3 150w 14k metal halides plus 1 54w 14k T5 and 1 54 w T5 actinic.

In that same article it talked about clams feeding on fish waste. Do you think the amount of fish/fish waste in the water has or should have any affect on placement?

no, they dont directly feed off of fish waste but the dissolved nutrients that come from the fish waste

ok, cool. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my post. I think I have a good spot about halfway up in my tank to place the clam but may need to prop it up with a smaller rock until it attaches. I don't think this will effect its ability to open at all, so hoping this will be ok. I guess my only concern would be if it fell.
