Crocea Placement

I just got a crocea, and I am wondering if you it be alright to place it on the sand bed. I have a 55 gallon tank, with the Aquactinics Tx5. 5 bulb.

i personally, would place it about midway with T-5s.

They like to be in the sand, but you can try to prop him up in the crevis of the rocks and see how he does.

croceas are never found in the sand, in fact all the clams we keep are most commonly found right up on the reef. only a few species can occasionally be found on the sand in very sheltered areas

croceas should be placed on a hard surface. I would place it midway up on the rocks.

yeah i would place them on the on a piece of rock you can easily remove. thats where i have my maximas and croceas

I have a tx5 fixture (39watt x 5) and keep a crocea perched on the highest point of the rockwork at about 4 - 5" beneath the waterline. Hasn't lost any of its colors since moving from my previous aquarium lit by 2x250 watt hqi.

From what I've read in Shimek's Marine Invertebrates, squamosas are found on rock as well.

you could get a smal plastic tub put some live sand in there, put the clam in there and then place the tub about half way up the rock

why do that, why not just put them on the rock without the box and sand....

I am very new to the clam game. In questioning placement, my new Crocea let me know right away. I started him out on the sand bed and he was doing ok, his mantle was 90%> extended. But when I was playing with the aquascaping recently, I ventured to put him up in the rocks. At first it was hard to get him to balance up there and when he would open it would cause the shell to move thus causing his withdrawl. After he realized the greater intensity of light he put his foot down and is teetering off of some tonga branch. Just thought it was funny.

You may be the only person I've ever seen say that. Everything I've ever read has shown them to be best on the rocks.
