My tank has been set up for 2 years now, i have some LPS and Soft corals in there. The tank is a 75 Gal, has a 40Gal Fuge and 4 T5 bulbs (2 actinics and 2 10k), do you think that i could keep a Crocea Clam in there?
yeah I probably jumped the gun. If you have like a tek with individual reflectors and IceCap ballast to get the best light usage I would say you should be okay. Ive see #'s of reefers with t-5 and clams.
Those don't have individual reflectors if i recall... I'd stick it on the rock work. I've read people sticking clams in the middle of the tank and the clam would move down and dig a hole. So it depends...
Don't forget about the size of the clam. if It's small, lighting neds are on short side of the stick, babies ned to be target feed. only larger sized clam need the full lighting. If he eont sit nicely in your rock work. place him on a cut peice of pvc wait till he ataches them put him where you want him. It works about 50% of the time
Over a 75g a 6 bulb setup would be better. Future upgrade idea perhaps. Aquactinics makes some sweeet units. With your current setup I'd keep them about 1/2 way up the tank to be safe. Stinks to lose a nice clam. You won't really know it's unhappy till it's too late in my experience. Croceas are THE most light demanding clams also. JMO HTH
FWIW I have a 36" long tank with t5s. They are 4x39w. with individual reflectors. My crocea is on a rock very high up in the tank and is doing really well. I love my clam and I love my lights!
