Crosshatch help needed

Thanks,
Was one of my fish on the bucket list. Waited along time to get one. This one seemed to fit the bill, looked real good, was said to be collected correctly.Really on the fence if I want to try another one.But the are stunning fish with a cool personality.

I wonder if it has to do more with WHERE it was collected than HOW it was collected. Crosshatch triggers are found below typical diving depths around the main Hawaiian islands, but in shallower waters (<100') in the NW Hawaiian islands (i.e. Midway, Kure). My guess is that most of the collection is done around the main islands, so there is a greater risk of decompression problems if the fish isn't brought up from depth carefully. I have no data to back this up...just venturing a guess based on what I have read and heard.

Hard to say. I know that one technique collectors use when collecting deepwater fish is to stick a needle in the fish's swim bladder to relieve pressure and prevent overexpansion. This is why some deepwater fish have swim bladder problems. Of course, this doesn't resolve problems with dissolved gas in the fish's tissues which could potentially lead to long term problems. It's the same reason why divers need to monitor their bottom time and not ascend too rapidly.
