Crowding Zoa Colonies?

If I were to place a couple of different Zoa colonies on the same chunk of LR, do they combine as one 1 mat, or will they keep a distinct separation?

well eventually they'll grow out and meet the other colonies, and then you'll have a mat.

for the most part palys are known to form a "mat". if they are actually zoanthid sp. they will converge and mix at some point and form distinct lines at others.

if you have some bigger palys growing within a group of zoanthids, they will end up shadowing the smaller zoanthids and starve them of light.

In my tanks when 2 different colors/types of zoanthids grow together, usually the bigger of the two will crowd out the smaller and eventually only the bigger remains.
Even when they are two of the same size, many times one will be a faster more agressive grower, it will take over and crowd out the other.

Lol, it's so true. The ugly ones are always way more aggressive growers in my tank as well.
