Hi my pump crashed on my tank about a week ago so i moved all my critters to my buddies tank till my pumps comes in the mail i was thinking about switching to sand now that there is no critters to worry about has anyone used CaribSea Super Naturals Aquarium sand ?

Just use dry sand. Rinse it really well then add it in. If there is water in the tank you can use a pvc pipe to pour it down to the bottom with.

You might go through a mini cycle replacing all of the substrate, so make the change and then test the system before adding the critters back in.

Good time to consider going bare bottom. Makes it easier to keep clean

Honestly, bare bottoms will look dirtier over time from the accumulation of algae and detrius. A tank with a decently deep sand bed and an adequate CuC will look/be cleaner than some bare bottoms without said sand dwelling CuC members.
IMO

Is the supernaturals the really fine stuff?
If so that can be tricky to keep in place with the flow that a reef tank uses. I think I used caribsea special grade aragonite, it's just regular, dry, sand. The middle grade sands are a good balance between large stuff like crushed coral that lets poop fall down between and rot, and the really fine stuff that blows around.

+1 to special grade seafloor, not too large, not too small

I used the sugar sand once, it was nice, but really becomes a stinky mess over time compared to larger stuff. Crushed coral seems to big imo so it allows a lot of larger particles down deep..

Ok thanks guys going to get a larger grain today and add it then let it sit for a week or so then add my critters good idea with the pvc too bought a funnel and grabbed a piece of pipe from work lol
