Crypto Pro and seahorses

I was wondering if anyone has used Crypto Pro (Quinine Sulfate) with their SH. I just purchased a Kuda from my LFS and have it in QT. It has no signs of ich but I understand they rarely do, even if they do have it. I am just trying to play it safe with my new buddy.

I did a FW dip before adding it to the QT and plan on starting a prazi pro treatment. I am wondering it it would be advisable to treat for ich with Crypto while I have it in QT.

Why are you planning on dosing it with a deworming med? Was this a wild caught or questionable source horse?

TO answer your question, no, I've never dosed a SH QT with QS. I've de-wormed a wild caught horse before, though, and you need more than prazi-pro to do it...there are two other worm meds that cover different genera of gut parasites that you'll need to do a thorough job....metronidazole and fenbendazole.

I was taught that the deworming should be done as a preventative measure on any WC horse (or pipefish for that matter if they'll take live brine) regardless of external symptoms, because a WC horse is almost certain to be carrying at least one bug in their gut. But as for physical symptoms go, you should look at their fecal packets. We all know what "healthy" seahorse poop should look like (we're weird that way!) and an unhealthy bowel movement that is stringy and whitish could be indicative of internal parasites, but the parasites can exist even if the fecal material looks normal.
I got my worming instructions from Ann who posts on the.org site and occasionally on SWF's forums. I can copy/paste if anyone wants them; obviously all credit goes to Ann for patiently writing 'em out the first time.

It is a TB SH. There are no signs of worms (very plump and eating frozen mysis like a champ) but I figured it couldn't hurt, as mild as prazi pro is. The same goes for the Crypto. Just being cautious.

I think there are probably circumstances where the QS would be indicated with seahorses, particularly in regard to difficult ciliates, and I've been meaning to look into it more since that is more readily available to the hobbyist than some things we recommend. However, I don't think it is indicated as a prophylactic because I would expect it to be pretty stressful on the seahorse's system, unless the seahorse's species and/or source makes it known that there will be issues (like the TR H. comes). With the prazi, if being used for worming, it is best dosed by gutloading it into adult brine shrimp and then feeding that to the horse.

Guess I wont use the QS. No need to fix something that's not broke. The SH seems just fine and I would hate to mess things up for no reason.
