Crysurus Angelfish Compatibility

I current own a Crysurus angelfish and he is doing GREAT. He is starting to change color and eating well. I have a 300ga 9 foot long tank. I have some tangs a snowflake eel and a small puffer. I would really like to get another angelfish in the tank. How do these Angels do with others? I was thinking of getting a juvenile angelfish in the same family. I have been told these angelfish are quite docile which I notice in the tank currently. Thank you.
 
be careful...these can be very tough when large...queens, passer, emps are all alpha fish and may cause problems...
 
I would add two angels at a time cause that Chrysurus will likely harrass a single new angel big time!! If you rearrange the rocks when you introduce the new angel helps a bit or a put a plastic divider/eggcrate in the tank so they can get use to each other for a few days.
 
i had to relocate my chrysurus. the slightly larger 5" emp juvie(changing) had chased the chrysurus nonstop. in the mean time the chrysurus developed severe HLLE. i imagined from the stress. my emp was my first fish, so he gets to stay in the DT.

I have several other angels, the only fish that shows aggression is the emp.

I forgot, now the 2 scribbled doesnt get along either. i'm about to release them back together next week. they got along fine for months until i separated the tank with egg crate in half, and then they hate each other after i took the egg crate out.
 
gonna have to ask the Chrysurus about objections, lol...but, you will know soon enough...annularis, typically, are not *** aggressive as queens, passers, and emps...

I was one of those who tried to mix angels. Your tank is larger than mine, and you have a different fish... But my experience was that after about two years, my emperor angel was not willing to tolerate the blue face or blue spotted angels. I'd proceed with caution, and look for the most unrelated angels you can find. Don't put in the same kind or genus, or angels that look similar in coloring.
 
Yea, I have heard the same about Imperators. Although I have done some research and was told that the Crysurus is a very docile angel, similar to a Majestic. Not sure about how it will fair with the Annularis. I am picking it up today and we will see how it goes. I can always return it.
 
I don't have experience with Chrysurus angels, but have always wanted one. My gut feeling is that, as a Pomacanthus angel, they are going to be pretty spunky and territorial towards any other angels, and so will the Annularis (also in the Pomacanthus genus).

IME the most aggressively territorial angels are the Holacanthus and Pomacanthus genera. I'd watch them really closely. On the positive side, you have a large, long tank, so that may help. It took a good two years for any aggression at all to show up in my tank, but once it started, there was nothing I could do about it.

Let us know how it goes. It's always good to hear others' first hand experience.
 
Sometimes theres a lot of aggression on the initial encounter. You could try the various tactics and they later work out together. You could try removing the more aggressive fish for a couple of weeks or separate them with an acclimation box or egg crate.
 
I did that with my emperor when adding the blue face and blue spotted angels. It worked fine, but still, within a few years, the other angels were not tolerated.

Well this was predictable if you just threw in the new angel without doing any of the recommemded steps. No angel fish is going to accept a new angel with open arms(or fins ). You'll never be able to completely prevent some harrasment but one can minimize it. This is the only way many of us have been able to keep numerous Angels in the same dt. Good luck

did you add at night with lights off? any egg crate to keep the two apart but allow them to see and and get used to each other?
I put my fish into the dt from the qt late at night, when they are asleep..so easy to net them...really reduces stress...plus, the fish in the dt are also asleep...and that helps too...ime...Ted
 
and as geaux man said....always qt your fish...prazipro and cupramine...this is by far the simplest and best advice to keep your fish and tank healthy....
 
Well I tried the egg crate idea but it was simply impossible without rearranging the rock. I was able to return the other angel to the store for full credit so it was not a big deal. I appreciate all the suggestions. It was worth a try.
 
i have a chrysurus, and most of the angels you are referring to, when dealing with angels you never kmnow when they will get along or not. i've always had success with putting egg crate as a divider for a few weeks
