CSS 65 ?'s

Okay, what is the bear bones minimum mod's needed to be done to this skimmer to solve the overflow issue? Once this mod is done does it completely solve any and all overflow/leaking issues this skimmer may have? I know you can always find something to mod on skimmers but how well does this skimmer perform stock (other then the overflow mod)? What other mods are absolutely necessary for this skimmer to perform well? Bottom line the skimmer needs to perform well, have no leaking/overflowing issues and be relatively inexpensive. I am comparing this with a some other skimmers (Odyssea PS75, D&D Typhoon and Via Aqua SK200) that won't break the bank and want to know how much extra I will have to do to it to make it stack up against the rest.

Bare Minimum......clean the skimmer regularly and it won't overflow.

Some people on here will swear to the heavens that no matter what their's will occasionally overflow.

To remedy this you can either Mod a Gate Valve after the "Red Knob of Doom"

$15-20 maybe?

Or you can do it even cheaper and just drill a hole in the collection cup. Run some airline tubing from the cup to a larger holding container (milk just works). That way if the skim level reaches the appropriate level it will flow into the milk jug and not onto your floor.

How much adjusting does this skimmer require and does it require adjusting upon each restart (I usually shut off the skimmer during feeding time), after each cleaning, changes in water level? Is it easy to adjust? Will installing a drain line ensure there are no overflows and what size drain line/hole?

of the ones you mentioned the typhoon will work the best, right out of the box with no mods. Check my gallery to see some really tiny skimmate pics:)

for me, adding an air valve to the tubing really helped although it still overflows every once in awhile. The best solution for this is to add a barb fitting at the top of the cup with some tubing going back into the tank, so if it fails the water drains back into the aquarium.
