CSS size for a 65 gal.

I currently have the 65 gallon rated skimmer(coralife). I know that I was being cheap so I want to make it right, whould it be ok to buy the skimmer rated for the 220 gallon instead of buying the 125 gal. or would that be too much power?

wait...so you have the css 65? and you're wondering if you should upgrade to either the 125 or the 220? How big is the tank? is it the 65 in your sig? and how is the css doing on it now?

Sorry I did not realize that I did not relay that info. That was my fault....
Ok.. starting over. I have a 65 gallon with a 20 gallon sump/fuge where it currently houses a css 65. well the tank has been up for 3 months and the skimmer about 2 weeks ago stopped producing the venturi like micro bubbles in the main chamber. I have since found out that this has been happening to css. I thought well if I up grade to a bigger one which I thought I needed anyways ( I thought that I was stressing the css 65) I would get the css 220?!?
But Maybe I will get the ASM ?!? does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

ASM will outcompete a CSS, but make sure that it is in your sump. I have also heard that the CSS 220 has a pump that isn't powerful enough for the size of tank it is supposedly capable of handling.

the css are junk i've heard nothing but bad things about them. go with the asm they are a lot better.

i have had both. i had a seaclone 150, then upgraded to a css220 and was amazed. i recently upgraded to an asmg4x(have a 225 total system volume) and im amazed at it.

take your skimmer apart and clear the air line. There is probably salt creep inside the plastic piece that the air line attaches.

all of them are plauged by this problem. I just know that once a month I have to take the motor apart and clean it.

Lizardcouple i like my 220, it works great, and I produce a lot of dark dark skimmate. There now you have something positive to say.

Don't listen to this guy. CSS are great skimmers for the price. May want to mod though. I didn't and am totally happen.


As for asm, there's a reason you have to run them in the sump.
