CSS65, in-sump, some questions

I have very limited space in my sump, and I'm considering a Coralife Superskimmer 65 (or possibly an ASM Mini). Some qualifications: Must be in-sump (no room to hang), I definitely want to keep a fuge area, and the sump is tiny (about 10"W x 20"L). I haven't purchased yet, and I have a few questions for you guys. Any answers are much appreciated!

1) I am thinking about setting the skimmer in my fuge area within the sump and running the intake pump from a baffled off area in the far right-side of the sump where my return pump also is. Is it easy enough to extend the tube from the pump to the skimmer?

2) What should the water level be for the skimmer?

3) I've read that some people use a different pump for the CSS series. Recommendations for the CSS65?

Illustrative figures (top-down):

These two pics should illustrate a bit better what I'm thinking of. I'd like to go with option 2 if it's possible. (Top-down view for these illustrations.)

Sump option 2 (preferred for more fuge area; not to scale):

PS - For the record, this is on a 45g Oceanic cube(-ish) (pics here), the relatively new model. No water in the tank yet, still figuring out the logistics.
