cucumber climbing to surface

i had a tiger tail cucumber in my tank for about 4 months now and i would see visibly him "eating" the sand but at abou the beginning of this week, he has climbed up the glass to the top corner of the tank. his feeding tentacles arent extended. not sure what is going on. anyone got some insight?

My cuc (5 yrs or so) occasionally does this, if it is somewhere I can reach him I gently remove and let him float back to the bottom.

Any chance that he's not finding enough to eat on your sand bed?
