Cucumber Problem!

Ok so i have a sand sifting cucumber that i was moving out of the way and he shot out 3 or 4 streams of really sticky tentacles! Does this mean he is going to die now or is it just a defense mechanism? I snapped a couple of pictures right away. I have never seen anything like it before. But i have everything out of the tank (the strands) But the cucumber is still in. That was WIERD!

It's a defense mechanism called eversion. They do not eject all of their tubules, and those that have been ejected will eventually grow back.
