Culturing Mysis Shrimp?

It is possible to culture mysis shrimp. What are you culturing them for? It makes a difference, because it is in many instances not worth it.

I would imagine they're as easy as amphipods. I'd try a small tank with some liverock rubble and a sponge filter. Feed them flakes or something .

You can culture them in your fuge. And if you keep short sections of pvc with a cap on one end in the fuge, when the lights are on they will congregate in the pipe. Then you can just remove a pipe and dump in your display or another tank.

Are you sure that you are culturing?

Are you sure that you are culturing?

Are these shrimp actually breeding or are you just ordering them and taking the ones that you need?

Great for finicky eaters such as wild-caught seahorses, great for reef tank inhabitants and other marine organisms that are hard to feed
What about the hydroids that can hithhike on wild caught animals? :D

Hanging a basket of rubble into your tank corner will go a long way at providing a refugium for at least some of the breeding animal.

Yes the shrimp are breeding like crazy. They wax and wane slightly. I stocked the fuge and display about 10 months ago with detrivore kits from inland aquatics.

interesting...how big is your fuge? What are you feeding them? What do you do to stop cannablism? What is your current population? Talk about your birth rate a little, if you know it.

The fuge is a 55 gal that I added a few baffles to. The fuge section has a 7" sand bed, big ball of chaeto and a good amount of live rock rubble( from about 1" to 4" diameter). They seem to like living in the rubble, but I also see alot in between the baffles. As far current population, not sure but I would say at times its a few hundred in the fuge. I see them in the cervices the rock in the display as well. I don't care for them at all, they just grow. I do feed the tank fairly well 2 times a day. I think having the live rock rubble in the fuge really helps.

Thats cool, maybe I will give it a try and see if I can get a decent population going. My next culture tank, I thought would be an amphipod tank. But perhaps I could try mysis if I create a deep live sand bed together with live rock.
