Culturing phyto by a window?

Could I get enough sunlight from a window to culture phytoplankton. I've wanted to culture my own for quite a while now, but my dad would kill me if i had to plug in more lights lol. It would be on the north side of the house so it gets sunlight all day. Would this be enough light?

A single 40w NO bulb will work just fine :D

Problem with using the sun is, temp spikes. Other then that, NS is fine to use.

Thats why it would be on the north side, to prevent temp spikes, it gets indirect sunslight all day where the south side would get direct all day. Also, I have cactus growing right there, and i use a grow light on cloudy winter days and on the shortest winter days its on all day. So it sounds like I can do this so far, anyone else?

I use a 23w 5500w screw in type bulb from Home depot, cost about $7.00
thay say phytoplankton need light for 16 hours and day, so you wont get that with sun light.
I make two gallon a week with that bulb.;)

Wouldn't it still work though, just not as effeciently? It works in the ocean. I would still supplement lighting on cloudy days as I said before. I'm going to try it, and if im not getting results ill just have to put the light on for a few extra hours every day.

Too much much temperature change here in michigan, especially once winter comes, i doubt that it could survive 20-30 degree weather.
