Cupramine question

I am treating my fowlr tank with cupramine right now and have a few questions about its side effects. I was forced to treat my DT because of the fish load, I would have needed to duplicate my DT to make an adequete hospital. So I removed all the inverts I had in there (cleanup crew) but I didn't remove the live sand or live rock. Cupramine says it doesn't disrupt your biological filtration so I'm guessing my live sand will be ok? What I wonder is how my live rock will fare. Will the cupramine kill the macroalgae? Will the cupramine comprimise my live sand? If the cupramine does in fact kill my live sand and/or rock will they regenerate after the copper is removed or do I need to seed them to get them started?

well all your rock and sand will have copper absorb into it. So pretty much become dead rock.

It won't affect the biological filtration, but if it is live rock and sand then most of the living things will die and you will have an ammonia spike. The rocks and sand will absorb some of the Cupramine so daily testing of copper concentration is important. But most important of all is keeping an eye on the ammonia level. Seachem has ammonia alert badges you can place inside the tank.

if you treat the display with copper, the sand and rock will absorb the copper. There is cuprasorb but it may not get ALL of the copper out. some inverts and corals are EXTREMELY sensitive to copper and even the slightest amount leeching from the rocks can harm them. It would have been much better to set up two smaller QT tanks that treat the display.

I would suggest you remove the live rock and sand ASAP.

I always keep a sack of Cuprisorb in the sump to soak up any stray copper that might leech out in the future.
