Cupramine questions

i just set up a quick hospital/qt tank for a sick fish. Using cupramine to fight it, but tank is not cycled so how do I go about water changes? do I have to add more cupramine each water change? If so how much? also this stuff throws off amonia test kit, so I was thinking of just changing out 1g a day, so my question would be do I add 2 more drops of medicine as its 2 drops per gallon... fish is a royal gramma with what I believe to be velvet.

You have it right - if the dose is two drops per gallon and you change one gallon, put two drops in the gallon of new water before you add it to your qt. How big is your qt? You probably need to change out more than one gallon to manage ammonia.

You will be more accurate with a SeaChem or Salifert copper test kit. The stick on ammonia badges work with Cupramine. When doing WCs, be sure to add the Cu before adding the new water to the tank. It sounds like this fish was in a DT; if so, all fish need to be treated ASAP. The DT, assuming its velvet, should be left fishless for 6 weeks. Velvet can wipe out a tank in no time, I hope this fish was a new purchase and not exposed to other fish.
