Cupramine Treatment

I have a 10 gallon QT tank. i added 16 drops for 10.5 gallons (15 for my tank) the first day, and on the third day as the instructions say. I tested the water today (4th day) and the copper level is apparently at zero. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my test kit? I'm trying to keep the level at .5ppm

Thanks, Nick

Anything else in the tank that could be absorbing the cupramine? I hate ot ask this, but are you running carbon? If so, remove it.

I don't mean to insult you by asking that, but I once tried to fix a friends lawnmower, to only find that it was out of gas. Sometimes the obvious questions are where the answer lies.

Also, what test kit are you using? I'm not sure how many drops equate to a ml, but you would have dosed 1 ml on the first day, and then 1 ml on the third day to get to roughly 0.5 ppm.

Not sure I've helped at all.

If you are testing with API or almost any other kit other that SEACHEM you will get a reading of zero. API will not read cupramine. Do NOT add anymore copper. If you do have the SEACHEM kit then I would wait another day or so and test again.

Right. A SeaChem, Salifert, or Red Sea copper test kit will work.

bare bottom tank, no sand, no carbon. Just a power filter (sponge and ceramics) and a heater. I was using an API test, i'll look for a SeaChem test.

Thanks.

Instead of counting Cupramine drops. Use a syringe and go by ml instead. You can get one of these syringes from one of your test kits.It is more precise, and easier IMO. Also I have both Salifert and Seachem copper test. The Seachem copper test is easier to read..

I purchased a test kit that can pick up the copper, it's also reading zero. I'm guessing ths time, from the copper disappearing. Should i just start the treatment over?

Which test kit? They need to be followed 100% correctly, the smallest thing could screw up the test. Seachem also takes a good 5 minutes to register your results. I know I dont see anything turn blue for about a minute at least when I test.
