Need some advice on curing some dry rock? Should I go the bleach route ? Let me know if anyone has any experience with this.

Do both

Do both

I am in the process of curing my dry rocks as well. I have been Acid bath in the past which works well. However, this time I try both Acid and bleach.

I put all the rocks in a brute container with tap water and

let it seat for about two weeks.

after that I Acid bath, rinse and than bleach for about one week.

after that rinse and pressure wash ( I will not skip pressure wash)

I can't believe how much stuffs and dirt still coming out from pressure wash.

let the rock air dry and put all the rock back into a clean brute container.

at this time you want to use RODI water with powerhead.

Just to make sure all the bleach are no longer in the rocks, I use dechlorinate solution several times as you change out RODI water.

Once you are happy with the results, the rocks are ready for salt water and seeding of beneficial bacteria and live sand from a clean and well established tank.

this last step can take up to a month or so. This whole process should take about 2-3 months. I know that this seems long but not having to deal with algae bloom or the headache of the new tank syndrome is well worth it, IMO.

Also, BRS has a great video on youtube on how to curling dry rock using bleach and acid bath.

Good luck

I Soak in bleach overnight and then rinse well. Then drop it in vinegar for a while and rinse well and then put it in water And start changing the water every couple of days. It can take a while to get all the bound phosphates out.. I hate dry rock now. The last time even after 6 months it was leaching so bad I pulled it all out of my tank and went live rock...

I wont use it anymore. Either live rock or real reef rock for me.

Power wash then soak in bleach for a few days then power wash again. Let sun dry and add to the tank with some dr tims or seed night owl etc and let it work for a month or so. Bleach dissipates after a day or 2. You can let soak in di water and test po4 until it's almost zero.

With the Marinepure spheres, do they feel delicate or crumbly? Some folks have mentioned that the block shaped media is very delicate and crumbles to nothing very easily. Appreciate your insight!

Brs did a video on cleaning dry rocks, which is more effective

That they did. And it was actually pretty informative believe it or not. What I found interesting is the amount of surface rock you lose when using acid or bleach.

Just ordered 150lbs of dry Pukani. I'll do a quick rinse with water but after that will start the aquascape it in the tank, fill with ri/ro saltwater, and start the cycle process.
