Curing Live Rock

From what I have researched and read all you have to do is scrub the rock to get all the dead stuff off of it and then put in in a clean tub with ro/di water and add a powerhead or 2 and do 50-75% water changes every 2 weeks. This should be done for 4-6 weeks. Also there should be no light to prevent algae break outs.

Is there anything else that I should know about or doing wrong?

Also I assume that you are using salt water in the tubs that you are curing in?

For god's sake yes!:D

Don't overscrub the rock just get any obviously decaying material off the rock. You are still trying to preserve as much life as possible. Only thing I would do different is perhaps more frequent water changes. That of course would be based on the level of stench and filth in the water. This would also be to preserve as much life on the rock as possible.

I would scrub only the parts that smell and look like decaying organisms. I'd put a heater in the tub, for sure, and a skimmer, if there was one sitting around. The water changes I'd do more frequently if ammonia was present and over 1 ppm or so, and I had the energy.

this might be a kinda stupid question but you would not want to cure the rock in the tank that you are going to be using as the display tank ?

I guess it's easier to clean those dead stuffs and keep no light in a rubbermaid tub.
