Hey everyone this will be my official build thread! My new build is SCA 50 gal cube tank! I do Have some referring experience, I want to keep this thread loaded with picks and details.....
Experience
About 5 years ago I embarked on a 150 gal reef tank living at home with my parents. I did some research here on reef central but overall moved quick. The tank was 48x25?x30. The stand it was on was home made by myself ( I am not much of a carpenter) and was 40" tall. The thing was a monster in a small space and unmanageable. The return pump section sucked air once a week as I did not top off, I dumped calcium and alk powder right into the tank, did not have much flow, and never really did water changes because of the large amount of water needed. I had metal parts just above the sump, Salt creep would build on the metal parts and fall back into the sump. needless to say I made A lot of mistakes
Current tank
Im starting fresh with a much more manageable build. The tank is a SCA 50 Gal 24x24x20. I ordered just the stand and tank from SCA as I wanted to customize everything else. This build will be high tech but simple, I will be running a algae reactor at first to see how it does to control nutrients, weekly 15% water changes will be done, and a apex will be installed. The tank will have a 16" ghost overflow
I should mention I am getting married in October so there is no plans for livestock until I get back from my honeymoon in November. I will hopefully get the tank wet and cycle so its ready for when I get home. So everyone follow along!
