My lovely wife (in more ways than one) recently agreed to let me upgrade my 150g standard tank to a custom 72x28x30. The dimensions were selected to fit into a corner of my family room and to not stick out further than the hearth (29 inches from the wall) that it will be next to.
The overflow(s) will be internal. The question is whether I can get away with a single overflow, presumably in the middle back, or whether I need two spaced apart so as to surface skim different areas of the tank? The other thing I'm worried about is access to the overflows will be difficult since the tank will be against two walls.
The details on the rest of the system are:
Tank:
72x28x30
starfire on front and one side (the two other sides will be against the wall)
eurobraced
3 holes per overflow: 1 drain with a gate valve, 1 emergency drain, 1 return (the Herbie setup).
Am seriously considering using Miracles In Glass for the vendor.
Stand:
32 inch tall: metal, skinned with wood to match some cabinetry in the room. (I'm 6 ft 1, and don't like looking down into my tanks.)
Circulation:
3x Vortechs
Iwaki 100RLT return pump
Lighting:
3 lumenbright large pendant reflectors
3x 10K MH
3x Icecap 250W ballasts
2x 60inch VHO actinics
Icecap 430 ballast
Skimmer:
I have an AquaC EV-240, but am considering changing to a MSX-300A.
5 Stage RO/DI with an auto-topoff
GEO kalk reactor hooked inline with the ATO.
Reefkeeper Lite.
Vodka dosing via the RKL and a peristaltic pump.
Basement sump (150g Rubbermaid)
20g refugium in the sump with chaeto
Dual reactor from BRS: Carbon changed monthly, GFO used and changed as I feel like it.
