custom avitar?

i have been trying for days to figure out how to get a custom avitar....what am i missing?? You have to pay for premium membership?

If I remember correctly, you need 100 posts first

Then you can add a custom avatar.

how about adding pictures to the profile? sorry for the high jack but i cant figure out how people have pics come up under their camera icon....does it have to do with the # of posts as well?

How is everyone modifying their pics to fit the size requirement.

This always seems to be a pain for me.

The trick is to set the camera to a mode that is very low in pixels. Then resize using your photo imager of choice to match the ellusive 818.

Its worded funny, it says file size or pixle x and y. I usually mess with it in paint and get the bites down, but then it still says its too big.

I just set it up in photoshop to the RC size requirements.

I use Photoshop and do a 'Save for Web' after I resize the image to 150x150 pixels. In that save mode you can tweak the JPEG compression and pull out unused colors, etc. Its amazing how small you can get a photo. I had a portrait that came out to be like 6k with this method.

By no means am I the PhotoShop expert, just stumbled on this when I was having the same issues.

In the past people have posted in gorilla mass media campaigns in places like the lounge with comments such as "nice tank" and "LOL" for the sole reason to drive up thier post count.

The main motivation behind discouraging this is to decrease server traffic as much as possible as the site gets increasingly popular, as well as to encourage thoughtfull participation within the community as well as not to bury legitimate comments/questions.
