Custom Colors 125 Build

Hey custom, lookin' good!

I think that foam will let water in. It probably won't be dense enough for denitrification, but it will be good surface area for bacteria. It'll eventually be like a sponge, but it will still be buoyant. If I did something like this I might put a few big rocks at the bottom and drill for some fiberglass rods and epoxy it. Essentially add some reinforcement and weight.

My only concern is it's probably not scrubable, is it? What if you get some GHA on it and need to get it off? I've also heard that it'll slowly dissolve and kind of wear away. What are your thoughts on this?

Could one use a better grade plywood, maybe birch or maple veneer and then use quite a few coats of lacquer with sanding in between. Would dry fast and is pretty durable, no?

the foam is firm enough for a tooth brush scrubbing. its almost like a thick styrofoam cup for stifness. thats the best way i can describe it. its prety strong stuff.
about the wood: well i got the 3/4 ply from work for $5 a sheet so it was worth doing the extra work to get it smooth. plus i had the slick sand already from the last car i painted

Custom,
what "formula" did you use for the DIY rock? Why didn't you use it round the calflo?
i used the kinda old method with 1 part portland cement and 2part crystal salt. the reason i didnt use in on the calflo is i didnt think it would beable to take the weight of the cement for long since i used 1/8" glass. i was just being safe rather then being sorry. once its all purple no one will know the diff.

Looking good. Keep up the progress photos... However, I can imagine sanding photos are not quite worthy. I'm interested to know how the foam holds up as well. Looks great!

well im starting to take my time cuz im curing some diy live rock for the tank so i hope to get every thing else done befor the rock is done plus its to hot out the past 2 week to do much during the day. i did some work with that stripe that i didnt paint on the back of the tank. my idea was to light up the cave alittle at night with some leds. all i did was drill some holes in come plexy, glued some leds in and wired them up and did some hangers for them to hang off the tank in just the right spot to shine into the tank. i hope you can see the last pic. i did my best with it.
befor leds
as u can see i added some more rock to the back. well these are blow offs for the amp master. i realy want the flow it can do and when it goes into the om squirt it goes to a 1" from the 1.5" from the pump so just under the om i will t it off to the 2 sides where there is some hidden .75"pvc in the rock. just look for the arrows.
Thanks Customcolor, yes the chiller has been doing the job!

Have you leak tested your tank yet? If so how did it go?

i got the closed loop running with the om squirt (om rocks, i love it) right now out in the garage and i will be starting to plum the return lines and the overflow tonight. and will test that as well befor i bring it in.i want to see how quiet it will be. so far the om is louder than the amp master. WEIRD AINT IT?

Very cool thread!! Very clever idea with using rock salt to add texture to the pond foam.

I first saw "The Dark Crystal" when I was 10 years old. At 35, my brothers and I still quote that movie (my younger brother has the same exact mannerisms as a Skeksi.)

Any idea how much flow is going out the pre OM sides and then how much out of the OM? Have you been able to noice any back-forth motion from the OM? Tank appears to be empty still so may be hard to see. Nonetheless, great job. Love the ideas.
