Custom tank, pic intense...

Hey Agu,

Man that setup is nice! I'm jealous. Good job and sorry about the loss. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming.

nice...and about the brown color of your tank in the photos, i think your actinics were screwing with your auto white balance. If you can custom the white balance you can set it before you take your picture with the lights on...that may fix the problem. I think everyone should do that with all actinic pictures. Photography is tricky under actinic lighting to say the least

nice tank man

that favia almost looks like acans...

Somebody else told me that. I'm going to take a pick of the exposed skeleton and post in the LPS forum.

An update on the tank,

After it overheated I lost a galaxia. The xenia has never really recovered and gets worse looking everyday, I finally moved it to the sump of another tank.

The Coralife 2X18wpc fixture is a real disappointment. First it overheated my tank (partially my fault), but it isn't vented and gets almost too hot to touch. After only two months one bulb has already burned out and the other one looks like it's about ready to go. So I tried to check for a good connection. The bulbs were fused into the sockets and I had to pry them out with a screwdriver :( . In spite of using the plexi shield the sockets are full of crud and corrosion.

Has anyone retrofitted a vent on one of these fixtures ?

to bad about the light.
i have the same light on the 5.5g and its been clean and problem free. you may have got a defective light.

is it under warranty?

I'll check. Even after cleaning and WD40 I can barely get the bulbs in/out of the sockets :( .

How has the light treated you, Agu? And how do you like the internal overflow? Any thoughts on how it could be better?

Nice tank!, What may work is a small dab of vasoline on the threads of the bulb. I mean just a touch and that should help your problem with the corrosion in the socket. This of course if you can get the bulbs out.

I got the bulbs out, cleaned the sockets thoroughly, and replaced the bulbs in June.

The warranty on the Coralife fixture is null and void because I don't have a glass top on the aquarium, per my emails with Energy Savers Unlimited.

Last week another bulb failed. I tried the "good" bulb in the other socket and it wouldn't fire there. A couple of days later the second bulb also failed. When I took the unit apart I decided to trash it, the heat had caused the plastic over the wire next to one ballast to crack and fall off. Exposed wiring in a light fixture over an aquarium is not a good idea. I'm now using a 26w GE daylight (6500K) curly PC bulb. Kinda yellow but beats the heck out of throwing money away on the Coralife fixture  .

I really like the internal overflow to hide the pump and misc (carbon, heater, etc ). It's also a good place to drip kalk and having it diluted before it hits the main tank. I would highly recommend the mod, it makes for a much cleaner looking tank.

The stand was a lucky find. I carried around the tank measurements for months before I finally found it. The Mrs was thrilled to have the "workmate" temporary stand finally removed from the dining room:lol: .
