I looked at cutting one, but... notice the screw thread in the end... not sure if you need that once it is cut. Just aluminum so a hacksaw would do it.
I was shopping and the guy tried to sell me 60" rails which i would need to cut for my 48" tank... I didn't actually buy them.
I hacked sawed mine yesterday. Like SKurj said, you will end up cutting off the threads. Not a big deal if you arent going to use the end caps. I tried to tap it with new threads and my thread tap broke off in the stinking hole. It was a disaster. I ended up just super gluing the cap on since I couldnt get the broke peice out. basicly I just used the caps to gauge how far apart to mount the railes to the top of my hood.
