cutting off xenia stalk

If I completely cut off this 1.5 inch thick stalk will it cause any chemical warfare or other "bleeding" issues with adjacent corals/clams/etc? - thank you

I don't think so. Maybe cut the stalk a day or two before you do a water change just to be safe.
 
Agree about the water change shortly after cutting. Probably won't be a problem if you tank is at least 50g.

If you cut where indicated, the head will grow back. If you don't want it to grow back, cut as close to the base as possible and take a toothbrush to what's left on the base rock where it sits.
 
I've cut mine many of time and have never had a problem. If you are worried just do a water change the next day

Thanks - I didn't know what to expect and whacking off such a thich stalk - If I cut my leg off - all kinds of stuff would come out
 
I had a overgrown in my 30g and hacked at them without any issues. About that width on the largest. They do really, really stink though.
