Cutting the sponge

Hi, i have gotten a beautiful Orange Sponge.
It's big, very big for my 90 gallons reef tank. Has a very beautiful shape.
I am asking; not sure if ever has been done; can be cut in small pieces like maybe 2,3 so that he can live further?
Thanks

most can be cut, but you do not really want to expose the sponge or pieces to air. This can cause problems. In my experience, they attach well when stuck into crevices, rather than using super glue.

I also wouldn't cut it in the main tank. Sponges tend to be very toxic, especially when damaged. Be sure to run carbon when you put the pieces back in too.
