Cyano and seaweed question.

I was running this through my mind and so I thought I would pop my question on here. In my FW pond outside, I control the unwanted algae by using other aquatic plants to soak up the nutrients.

So in my head I'm thinking... does this hold true with SW? I know we use "good" sea plants to help filter the water in a Refugium.

I have a 5 gal QT tank that I keep fish and corals in for 2 months before sending them to my tank. I have to have some light source in the tank, and I keep getting cyano. I don't want to send the cyano to my main tank.

Would good seaweeds help control Cyano? Do they use the same nutrients?

Yes many use macroalgaes in a fuge or turf scrubber,etc.. for nutrient export (nitrates/phosphates reduction)... Thats VERY common now..
BUT those that do that can still have cyano issues..

IMO the "real/100%" cause of cyano is still kind of an unknown..
