Cyano Battle

So I tried turning off the lights to kill off the cyano, but it continued to grow with the lights out (I guess the faint light entering the room from the outside is just enough to sustain growth). Dont get me wrong, the room is dark, just not pitch black dark.

I did notice a change though. The cyano used to be in very dense sheets on the sand and rock, and now it is longer and more string-like and not dense at all.

We did add more flow as well as turning off the lights. I would think its a good sign that it went from dense sheets to light strands, but I was discouraged by the fact that it still grew even though it was lighter.

Does anybody know what the deal is with the change in structural appearance from thick sheets to long light strands?

Do you buy your water? I had a huge outbreak in my tank when I used LFS water. Once I bought my RO/DI and used it a couple weeks the cyano was gone. I would not put any chemical in the tank to kill the algae. Its there because something isnt right. Its better to fix the problem then to cover it up. Overfeeding can cause it as well.

Ya It's dying! If its getting to the point where you can see through it that is. Kind of a orange-red colour? ...Just curious. How did you get a cyno outbreak?

Chemi clean. If you tried all of the normal fixes and the didn't work then just CC it and move on.

Chemi Clean didnt work. Not the first time, or the second, or the third. Even with a little more than the recommended dose.

Acefspds,

No I dont buy my water, I make my own. RODI unit is still reading 0ppm on the TDS meter, and I replaced the chamber cartridges just to be safe.

tarantula,

Its not really orange-red, but it is a pale red. Definitely not the dark blood red that it used to be. It is a lighter color now.
