I'm not really new to the hobby, but haven't had this issue in a long time. I've had a cyano outbreak for some time in my tank. When I tested the water, I saw the nitrates were high as I had recently had my canister filter I use for beneficial bacteria leak on me and tried running without it for a while. Long story short, I got a new canister filter and began carbon dosing again to try to get back to near undetectable nitrates. Dumby me, I completely forgot about phosphates and remembered I had also stopped running GFO, so I'm running that again, but the cyano hasn't gone away yet, about a week or a little longer into using GFO again. How long should it take for the cyano to die off once the phosphates are brought down? it's getting annoying and is starting to hurt my coral by growing on it. I've been trying to keep up with hand removing it from the coral, but is an annoying battle to fight.
