Cyano eating Halloween Hermit Crabs

Can anyone confirm if their halloween hermits ate cyano? My issues with the source of the cyano are being addressed but a friend of mine mentioned that they eat cyano and I thought this might be a good way to help speed things along and prevent potential spots showing in the future. I checked on liveaquaria and sure enough they also mention halloween hermits eat cyano.

I have just never heard of anything eating cyano before so I'm hoping someone can confirm this claim and provide a little insite into how affective the hermits were for them.

Thanks

Don't know about Halloween hermits but I have heard that scarlet hermit crabs will eat cyano. Best way to speed things along will probably be just siphoning the cyano out while you get the cause sorted out though.

I have several scarlet hermits and a couple of halloween hermits and although I have only had small issues with cyano, I've never seen anything eat it.

I just want to confirm that yes scarlet hermits do eat it, or at least mine do. Over a 1 day period my little 3/4 inch scarlet cleared about a quarter sized area. :lolspin:

So unless you have 100+ hermits or very little cyano, its not worth it.

I'd just like to note that I too have scarlet legged hermits and didn't notice them eating the cyano when I had an outbreak of it. I will also say that the Scarlet legged hermit is the ONLY crab of any kind that I'll allow to live in my DT. They're peaceful and won't kill snails and other hermits just for sport.
