Cyano Help

I am currently in need of help with Cyano. I have been battling it for about 2 months now. It collects on my sand but no where else.

I run a 20 gallon long with 0 trace of nitrates and phos across the board. I do run gfo (brs high cap) change every month, and Carbon every 3 weeks. I also have a SCA-301 Skimmer which gets cleaned/dumped each week along with a 25% water change. Along with my water changes I do clean the sand like I always have.

I also dose 2 part everyday, alk in morning, cal in evening. I run a 12 hour 9am -9pm light cycle with one Kessil 360 on a ramp. 2 mp10 on reefcrest. RODI from filterguys and reads 0.

Needing advice on how to get rid of this.

Search the forums for cyano. There are countless numbers of people who do the "lights out" method, myself being one of them. It works and it is safe.

I just switched to AI 24 HD LEDs. I am having the same problem with zero readings across the board. I adjusted the lighting from 80% to 60% at 20k. It's gotten better since. I think the high output LEDs have a lot to do with growing the stuff

Just the 3 day lights out. I highly recommend that you search the subject on the forums so that you can get a better understanding. I do not use any type of red slime remover. Do the 3 day and see what kind of progress is made. You can do this once a month, every month as needed.

I'm with you, the lights out approach, for me, always seems to shock my SPS. Since there such wimps to begin with i don't risk damaging them. Lights out totally works though i've done it twice on my tank no problem. I've added a bunch of SPS sinice then though.

I am at the tail end of my battle, here's what i've done.
1. reduced photo period on the tank, i run the lights ~7hrs that's it.
2. vacuum sand at each water change using a syphon (Python)
3. Added cerith and dwarf cerith snails, they eat it up pretty good on rocks and glass.

Basically it runs it's course, like previously mentioned lights out will get it done in a week flat, no doubt. I agree with you that acros may not like that approach, they might not die from the lack of light it's when you turn it back on...need to acclimate and some of the corals like my Red Dragon needs to start on the sand bed to acclimate. Not doing it.
