cyano

I was wondering if there is any way that I can get rid of this dang stuff. If I put a UV light on the tank will that help the cyano go away?

Probably not, since the UV light won't kill the mats themselves. The best cure is generally to increase the water movement in the areas affected, and to cut back on feeding to sort of starve it out.

It's also entirely possible that your tank is just cycling -- how old is it? I'm in the cyano phase of the cycle (the tank is around 9 months old at this point), so I have small patches here and there. Eventually it may just go away on its own. If you're running nutrient export in the form of macroalgae in the sump, the process may be hastened some.

Well the tank is fairly new and it has been a little expected to get some cyano, but it is really thick in some spots and I have been sucking it out with a hose. I hope that it stops soon because it grows around zoanthid mats and bothers them so much they wont open up. Ill thanks
