I had an phosphate spike about a week ago and it got up to about .25 ppm... algae growth exploded but only on the glass and now a thin film is starting on whats left of my sandbed... most is gone and I'm removing it as I do water changes... I bought some phosguard which is like seachem's gfo I guess and I'm running it in a hob filter with just the gfo, (I put it on like last night). it is very minor now but I want to combat it early... what should I do?

Keep working on reducing nutrients/excess organics..
repeat as needed..

If you want try red slime remover or chemiclean per the directions..

It's a little early for the chemiclean. I've used that twice with success but as mentioned above, follow the directions exactly.

I suggest manual removal, drop the light down or off for a few days, and really work on nutrient reduction.

10% weekly water changes and clean clean clean every piece of equipment. Should subside after some nutrient export unless you have a real serious imbalance.

been doing 10 percent water changes, phosphates are now in check and all growth on the glass has slowed down by like 90%
