Cyano

I have a lot of cyanos in my tank. It is a 90 gallon 8 months old. I have a circulation of water at the rate of 2000 gallon per hour.
What can I do to make them go away?

If you are talking about the red flaky stuff on rocks, I used antibiotics on mine. Something called chemi-clean. About 1/4 tsp per 10 gallons. Take the carbons out of your filters as they will take the treatment out of the water.

Hey pipen,

Do you test your water for phosphates? Phosphate is the primary chemical "food" for cyanobacteria. The best advice I can give you is to reduce your phosphates to zero which will kill the cyano without harming your beneficial bacteria populations as antibiotics would. Do you use filtered or purified water to mix your saltwater or do you use tap water? Tap water often is contaminated with phosphates.

Here is a very long, informative thread on cyanobacteria:

Hope this helps,
