i just switched over my tanks yesterday and i used differant sand but i put my old live sand into my sump, will i bee ok to add my fish? and corals soon?

its from the old tank, we took down and put the new 1 up with in 3 hours. ill go check my water and et u know where they are

I change over from a 30 gal to a 40 breeder about 3 weeks ago. What I did was I transfer half of my live sand and put it on top of the new sand and half of my old tank water. I test the new water to make sure it was as close to the old water as possible then I put all of my live rock, fish, and coral in the new tank. Within two hours all my corals were open and all the fish were swimming around. I check my water chemistry everyday other for about 2 week to make sure the tank wasn't going through another cycle. So far my readings are
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5
PH - 8.2
Cal - 420
Alk - 9
It's been like this since the transfer. If there was going to be a cycle I believe it would have happen by now.

use the force luke :)

since we dont know what your bio load is, your test results dont matter.

what it comes down to is how much benificial bacteria that is arobic got transfered to your new tank. [to handle what ever your bio load might be]

as soon as you add stuff and hopefully your LR is enough to convert the bad into good again an unknown

I wish you luck personaly i would wait as long as your livestock is healthy where its at

i did this not to long ago. i waited 2 weeks. there was a cycle. but it was short lived. you will also get the algae blooms/cycle. but they were very quick too. i would wait 10-15days. if your pressed it might cool if the bioload is light too just add them. but then you have to test daily even more if issue pop up. its worth a 15 day wait when you think about the possible risks. IMO

You'll probably be fine just switching over. BUT, remember that the set-up is new. Things on the HW side are not as "boken in", or really familiar to you, as they were in your old system. You can't remember to check EVERYTHING on a daily basis, and even if you could, you might not be able to easily fix something that might go amiss. In my case, the move over from a 180 to a 450 over a year ago brought with it a temp spike into the high 80's/low 90's. As a result, I noticed a measurable nitrite spike later that day. I brought temp down, sure, I also did all I could for the nitrite spike. I added a Polyfilter, Purigen, and Carbon. I also started doing water changes and added Bio-spira (argh, and I had just bought some not a week before for another tank). With all that done, things got worse before they got better.

Anyway, under ideal circumstances, no, you shouldn't really see a (re)cycle. But, IRL, things are sometimes far from "ideal". ;)
