Hi guys I would just like to find out your input on what someone has told me. They advised me to cycle my tank for about a month or 2 with uncured live rock. what do you guys think of this.

Thats exactly what I have done, its been up a bout 4 months now and Ive had no problems. Its much better way of doing it that using fish...

thanks for your imput guys I do appreciate it. I cant wait to start stocking my tank with fish but I know patients us a virtue in the hobby and taking it SLOW is the main factor.

I just read a forum about curing live rock and someone said not to put uncure rock in the main tank if there is and in it? I am cycling my tank with it in the main tank and I have sand in the tank already is that gonna b a major problem. I am now starting to worry that the die of that fell into the substrate is gonna cause issues when I decide to add my fish later down the line

don't worry, just cure it, just cuz u can't siphon off everything doesn't mean its totally messed up, it'll just take longer. once the levels start to even off, put in a clean up crew, they'll take care of the stuff on the substrate.

Cycle the rock in the tank with no sand so you can easily siphon the crap out. Add the sand when your water levels off.

edit- I missed that the sand was already in it. I wouldn't worry about it.

I know a lot of people like to put many hermit crabs and a shrimp too. I still have about two weeks until I can go a get a janitor crew.

I don't like hermits-to me, they are just a waste, cause you can get snails that do the exact same thing, but snails don't kill things.

depending on tank size, I'd get a couple of turbos when you start getting alot of algae, and nassirus snails for the sandbed. Then, a couple of peppermint shrimp for the eating of leftovers duty...

and maybe ONE hermit if you find one that you just NEED

thanks again guys for all the help. keep fingers crossed that everything goes well for me during my cycling period. This is my second attempt where the first was a total disaster and lost all my fish. :( but from what I learnt so far from this forum I think it will be more of a success. I dont think I was patient enough frist time round.
