Quick question about cycling mail-order live rock. I've only used it in completely new set-ups, so never needed to cure it outside the tank.
I received 50lbs from saltwaterfish.com today, vigorously brushed everything, rinsed, and put it all in ~12 gallons of water directly from my main tank in a separate container with a pump/heater. It's sat for ~6 hours at this point. Testing ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in the water just now, everything is zero across the board (readings no different than the control tests conducted at the same time in my main tank).
My question is this...how quickly would you expect to see changes in the water parameters if the rock has more curing to do? I expected 50lbs in 12 gallons to show something fairly quickly.
The rock is supposedly fully-cured when shipped and smelled good on arrival.
